About: Jay Deagon

Researcher, educator and advocate for Home Economics and Health Education Bachelor of Education (Secondary), Queensland University of Technology Master of Education by Research, Griffith University Doctor of Philosophy Candidate, Griffith University What does home economics mean to me? I am a mother, partner, sister, daughter, global citizen, Home Economics professional and researcher – but most importantly – I am me. Home economics makes clear the roles that I am responsible for in society. My home economics education has enhanced my skills for making important everyday decisions and enlightened me as to how and why my choices impact on me, my family, my friends, my communities, and my Earth. I have learnt that home economics is much more than cooking fried rice and sewing pencil cases. I have come to understand that “everyday life” is a spiritual journey. Home economics helps me to actively participate in life with an authentic and realistic perspective. I believe this field is so important, I am committed to learning more and teaching others how valuable home economics can be.
